Target Audience and General Intent

This is an immersive code compliance course that are tailored towards all stake holders in the construction industry. The course are also optimized for code officials including plan reviewers and inspectors. This means that the training is focused on code compliant design. Additionally, the course also includes training on how plan reviewers and inspectors can systematically review construction documents for code compliance.

The Course Content

- Statutes (Laws) and Entities (Players – Building officials, plan reviewers, designers, engineers, architects) in Conventional construction.
- The Seismic Design Criteria – Code requirements on the seismic design criteria, USGS and the development of seismic design parameters, seismic hazard maps, seismic hazard tools, seismic design category and its role in conventional construction, reclassification from seismic design category E to D2 .
- The wind design criteria – Wind speed, special wind zones, wind exposure categories and their determination.
- Weight and Height Limitations for the applicability of the California Residential Code. The determination of building material weights. Story height and stud height considerations .
- Braced Wall Lines – Factors to consider in the placement of braced wall lines, Length and Spacing of Braced Wall Lines.
- Wall Bracing Methods – Intermittent Bracing Methods (Methods covered: WSP, PCP, GB, ABW, PFG, PFH, BV-WSP); Continuous Sheathing Methods (Methods covered: CS-WSP, CS-G, CS PF).
- Factors affecting the selection of Holdowns and Straps in Wall Bracing.
- Multiple plan check examples on wall bracing. This is intended to distill the knowledge covered and show how plan reviewers can navigate the plan review process.
- Examples of plan review comments. This are provided in the wall bracing plan review examples.
